The idea of web-controlled door locks is very, very cool – especially if you are prone to losing your keys and/or don’t like leaving your computer desk for letting in visitors. Schlage would therefore seem to be right on the money with the LiNK lock. The price is slightly hefty, particularly when you take into account the cost of their online services (which are sold at a monthly subscription. Their LiNK Portal and mobile apps, which includes a puny 100MB of video storage.
The technically competent would likely be able to incorporate the Z-wave themselves and would not need the Schlage LiNK Portal, but let’s face facts, that is going to be well beyond the capabilities of the vast majority of potential customers. I find the notion that people are going to pay a subscription fee for a door lock simply preposterous. This is highway robbery folks, there are no two ways about it.
Price: $299 for the LiNK lock starter kit and $199 for additional locks.
Subscription: $12.99 per month for access to the LiNK portal

The lock works great, and you do *NOT* need to buy the Schlage bridge or pay the Schlage monthly service. Vera, from Mi Casa Verde, fully supports the Schlage locks, uses the same level of security, also supports remote access from web and cell phone, does everything the Schlage bridge does and MUCH MORE (see: http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Side_By_Side_Comparison). And there is *NO* mandatory subscription fee. Through 3/31/09 Mi Casa Verde is giving everyone who buys Vera + the Schlage LiNK a lifetime subscription to their online hosted services as well, which is normally $199. You save $100 by buying the Schlage lock without their bridge, plus $150/year by not using their subscription, and $199 from Mi Casa Verde. See: http://micasaverde.com/schlage_promo.php This makes it more affordable, and you get a real, full-featured home control system that supports all Z-Wave devices and does energy monitoring too.

Oh, compare the monthly price to other security systems and you realize this is sweet deal. My husband installed. We know exactly what time the bathroom guy for our bathroom remodel enters our home each day. We know exactly what time the kids come home each day. I can’t wait till the camera and temperature control features become available.
This product is very well priced. Cheap compared to other home security systems.

That is good to know, especially for anyone who is setting up shop for the first time.

I bought this lock on online after researching on consumer Schlage Website. I tried to get answers from Amazon but could not. I called the next person on Schlage’s Where to buy list, GoKeyless.com. When it came to keyless locks they seem to know what they are talking about. Not happy with the monthly fee but I will live with it. There is other keyless locks if you dont want to pay the fee.
