Details of Windows 7, which is currently under development, are starting to emerge. So far there is nothing particularly earth-shattering, but we will wait on baited breath. What we do know and have seen pictures of, is that there is a new calculator design – still no scientific functions, but it looks pretty good.
Details after the jump.
In addition we can also expect:
- Better User Access Control (UAC) – Hopefully it won’t can your COD4 savegames.
- The Ribbon will make its way into both Wordpad and Paint – Does anyone use those applications anyway?
- My Documents will be renamed Libraries – Which suggests to me that there might be some sort of download management or built-in file sorting program.
- Control panel will be able to control your system tray – This is something that should have been done years ago.
- A light version of Windows Media Player
- Internet Explorer 8 – Considering we will have that already, it is hardly news.
The project is still far from completion, but let’s hope that there is more to it than this. If the Libraries change does indcate some sort of better file management system, then that would be a big development. Here are some other things that I would like to see.
Windows 7 wish list:
- Customizable appearance – I hated the way that the Vista bar was black and black only.
- Faster load times
- Smaller memory footprint
- Multi-language support from first installation – I don’t want to have to buy a Japanese version and an English version of the same program.
Let’s see what happens. [Microsoft via Technologizer, Crunch Gear]

hardly innovative is it. i guess this is what happens when companies have a monopoly: a restyled calculator and some folder renaming.

whoopdeedoo a new look for the calculator, yippieeeee, that’s something to get real excited about.

what do you mean by that? the ribbon? I use wordpad alot actually, probably more than I will ever use the calculator.
I’ll have to see if there are any real advantages to upgrading to 7, for the time being I’m sticking with XP, I hate Vista!

I have been using paint for more years than I care to remember. As a commercial refrigeration contractor, it allows me to produce basic floorplans and patrs depiction without the time and money it would take me to learn autocad. In this case a picture is worth thousands of dollars. A very basic but highly functional program.
