When it comes to computers, military-spec anything is generally pretty cool, but I don’t have enough to hide that would justify me shelling out the cost of this bad boy. The makers claim that it surpasses military standards, they also inform you that if a hack attempt is detected, it literally self destructs; the data that is, not the drive. Considering the price, you would think that they would throw in at least 2GB, considering that they are practically giving the stuff away these days.
Price: $66.34 (for 1GB!) [Amazon via Book of Joe]

I made my own private “research” on secure USB flash drives. One thing which Ironkey is still missing is a management system in case you need to operate more than one device. SanDisk supply enterprise data management software for their secure flash drives.
This system allows to centrally managing company issued secure flash drives both inside and outside the corporate environment. For companies which operates several secure USB drives such a system is essential.

Nice vendor spam, Joyce and Tom. I implemented IronKey Enterprise for my corporation last summer and have been using it happily since then. They have a great system that enables multi-device management and is delivered via SaaS. It took me half an hour to set it up from scratch. We looked at the SanDisk product at that time too. We found it to be subpar, complex to install and maintain, etc. IronKey was clearly superior from security and functionality perspectives. As far as Tom’s “research”, it must have excluded http://www.ironkey.com. They describe in detail their management and other enterprise features: https://www.ironkey.com/enterprise
Oh, they support Mac too. The only issue that I found with their and other ultra-secure storage products is price. But as they say, you get what you pay for!
