The OTTO Espresso maker is the product of a “three year development phase has been driven by a love for great coffee.” It is a stove top espresso maker, but with a markedly different look to others of its kind. It is overengineered to the extreme and by the looks of things delivers a fantastic cup of coffee.
What sets this apart from a standard stove top model is that it is something of an all-in-one (the grinder is separate of course). It will prepare two shots of espresso and steam a jug of milk ready for a latte.
Another handy feature, as pointed out over at Appliancist:
The group cup which holds the coffee in place, when extracting the espresso, doubles as the boiler lid removal tool, allowing the hot boiler lid to be removed for refilling for the next round of coffees.
On a personal note, I am a big fan of stove top espresso makers. I drink a lot of coffee and they make a good cup, and they do it much more quickly than most people would imagine; as you can see from the video on the OTTO site.
OTTO comes with an OTTO tamper, the OTTO experience DVD providing a barista training session, two Italian designed latte glasses and a stainless milk jug, packaged in a robust premium travel case.
You will be paying for the privilege of owning such an awesome piece of coffee engineering, but when it comes down to it, it is probably worth it.
Price: About $410 [OTTO, The Appliancist via Boing Boing Gadgets]

The big issue here is going to be the same as that of any stove top coffee device – the actual temp of the water as it hits the coffee. I have a feeling that it will not extract the best taste from the coffee unless the grind is set perfectly. I also wonder – if water is trickling through the coffee without great pressure or a great tempreature – will you taste any of the high end parts of your coffee beans (the sweets, fruits, honeys, floral) – It would be great to play with one, see what it can do!
