Kogan Agora Android to be ResurrectedStumble This

It seems that Ruslan Kogan is serious about bringing the Kogan Agora to market. The original model was canned whilst under production on advice from Google that some of the specs, in particular the screen resolution were not up to scratch for the next version of the Google Android operating system.

The death of the original plans for the Kogan Agora Android was a massive disappointment for me. I don’t do an enormous amount of traveling, but I tend to take long trips when I do travel and that makes having a cell phone wherever I go pretty much of a must.

Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of cheap phones out there that would do the job, but living in Japan, a country with basically no support for unlocked phones, anything I got would be condemned to sit in a drawer until I forgot to pack it or lost the charger. Essentially, anything without a Wi-Fi connection is useless, which leaves few affordable options.

That is what piqued my interest in the Agora Android, well the professional model at least. Wireless connectivity would give me a device that I could make use of anywhere that has open wireless and allow me to have a dedicated Skype phone in the house.

To Ruslan Kogan’s credit, had he gone ahead with the device and brought it out before the next instance of Android, he probably could have made a few bucks and pulling it when he did probably cost him a few, giving me the impression that he is serious about creating a device with a bit of shelf life and hinting perhaps that this phone will make it out of the ether and into our hands sometime in the not too distant future.
