Math Geek Calculates Chances of Finding a Girlfriend, Reports Bad NewsStumble This

dfki_neu
Way back in the dark ages that were 1999 a Math geek put fingers to keyboard and shared some astonishing calculations with the world. Tristan Miller at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence revealed, that by his figuring at least, the chances of finding the perfect girlfriend were a mere 157,060 to 1. This is after taking the 1998 population of the Earth into account, and then culling the list to only include people that are female, living in developed countries, aged 18-25 in the year 2000, beautiful, intelligent, single and likely to be interested in the author.

Incidentally, with odds of 157,060 to 1 you have a better chance of being struck by lightning. Of course, the good news for Tristan Miller is that now in 2009 the divorce rate has gone through the roof, and the number of available women in his age group (which is now 28-35) is likely to have substantially increased. Furthermore, ten years of loneliness have probably made him more open to other possibilities and made him a little less choosy. Combine each of these points with the fact that as long as Mr. Miller has not let himself go too much, he is probably more attractive to the same group of women than he was ten years ago and his odds start looking better.

From what I remember of ten years ago (and I confess that it is somewhat of a blur) math geeks were terribly unsexy, not so in the 28-35 age bracket. And with the advent of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, there is a much higher likelihood of him meeting the woman of his dreams.

Tristan Miller, if you are out there, it is time to adjust your figures and give us all some hope. Or at the very least give us an update on how the quest is going and whether or not you have cheated fate and beaten the odds. Inquiring minds want to know! [Nothing is Real]
