The Lenovo shop in Guangzhou, China bore witness to a frightful event when the recently charged battery in a cellphone in a customer’s shirt pocket suddenly exploded. The shrapnel from the explosion sliced through his carotid artery causing him to bleed to death.
Update: It turns out he wasn’t killed by an exploding battery at all, rather he was killed by what appears to have been an accidental discharge from a homemade firearm that he was carrying. Find out more here.
At present the manufacturer of the cellphone battery is not known. [Tech Ticker via Gizmodo]
