Email encryption has really made a splash as of late thanks to US president Barack Obama being allowed to keep his trusty sidekick better know as a Blackberry. N-Krypt email solutions which we have featured here in the past lets you send email using banking level encryption while allowing you to track the progress of the email. Over the last couple weeks I tested it out on 4 different environments, Outlook, web mail, Blackberry and the iPhone. I have to say the email service is rock solid, works as promised and is truly uber cool. The screencast below features the highlights of N-Krypt (powered by email2) email solutions .
[side note: This is my first video produced and during the importing and exporting from the various editing software, the video quality is seriously diminished. Sorry]

N-Krypt using Outlook
Using N-Krypt with Outlook is seamless. In fact, In Outlook the N-Krypt email solutions feels right at home. It was ultra easy to use. Just download and add the toolbar and you will be up and running in no time. It has a simple to use UI and it becomes a natural extension of Outlook . Before composing an email it will ask if you wish to compose the email using basic services (no encryption or tracking info) or using the N-Krypt (full encryption and tracking). After selecting the N-Krypt services, click which settings you would like to track, just compose an email like normal and hit send. Now sit back and track the progress of your email. The recipient will receive an email with a link asking them to join the private email network. Once that process is done, all the tracking info is available.
You will be able to track:
- when the email was reviewed
- when the email was retrieved
- if the email was forwarded and to who it was forwarded
- if the email was printed
- if the email was deleted
My favorite feature hands down is the recall function. Anytime you wish to recall an email, just hit the recall button, enter some text into the warning box and that email has now vanished. The next time the recipient opens that email it will be flagged as recalled and your message will be present.
N-Krypt worked perfectly in Outlook with no issues. I loved the idea that I can shoot video messages instead of typing out long drawn out emails. I also like the fact that it works with your existing email address.
Web mail
If Outlook is not your cup of tea or you want to access your encrypted email when on the road, N-Krypt has a pleasant looking web client. The user interface is clean and easy to use. The biggest difference between Web mail and Outlook is that in web mail, you don’t have contacts you have a members area. Here is the description from the site:
New members are automatically added to this list when you receive or send them a message, including messages sent via the Outlook Toolbar or the Mobile client. Each member detail is automatically updated (e.g. phone number, address, etc.) and you do not need to maintain this list.
Unlike an Address Book, the member list only includes people you communicate with over the Private Email Network. Therefore, there is no need to ‘import’ your contact list from other e-mail applications.
I can see their rational behind this but some may find logging into their email account to copy and paste email addresses to send off emails cumbersome. In Outlook you have the benefit of accessing your contacts and composing encrypted email all from one program. Once you have all your members all set up in web mail, you will find it a pleasure to use. Everything is nicely organized and again you can take video messages right from the web client.
Blackberry and iPhone
The mobile service is a lighter version of the full featured brother, with the most notable dropped feature being the lack of access to any mail folder besides the inbox. When you log in, it takes you straight into the inbox. All the individual email’s have the tracking info on the bottom. The mobile version feels more like a beta software and I have been told that a revamp of the mobile browser interface is just around the corner and it is the companies number one priority. I felt the mobile interface was adequate and did the job for my needs. My only issue was with formatting. On the Blackberry, there was no formatting issues, but on the iPhone I had to resize every screen to be able to see the text which is a minor annoyance.
Pro’s
- simple, clean User Interface
- keep your exsiting email address
- extraordinary amount of tracking information
- able to send video messages
- all messages are encrypted, even video
Con’s
- being able to add contacts to webmail would be nice
- formating on the iPhone needs some work
Pricing:$12-35 per user/month. Which makes it expensive for personal use. To save some cash, N-Krypt is still running a promo, if you use the promo code INOV32, you get 3 free guest licenses per user.

Dach – I use Outlook Track-It as well. It’s saved my business because otherwise, I am unable to remember who to follow up to. I downloaded it a few days ago and it’s been great.
