Samsung’s Syncmaster U70 a 7″ USB Companion Monitor

Samsung is set to release a tiny seven=inch companion monitor named the U70. The display is designed to be a secondary display, and is connected via USB rather than using a display port. As you can probably imagine, with the USB connection come a few compromises, resolution is a puny 800 x 480 and the display time is a whopping 30ms, but that doesn’t really matter if you just want a small screen for a few widgets or to keep your desktop open on.

There are plenty of reasons to get a second monitor: it helps you get work done faster, it allows you to keep your desktop open on one screen while you work on another, it allows you to compare two versions of the same document, I could go on but I won’t. On the other hand, there are some inconveniences: a second monitor will burn more electricity and it will take up more space. The Samsung U70 seems aimed at the people for whom the inconveniences outweigh the benefits. Me, I will stick to my twin 20s, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like this idea.
