If you ever imagined what it must be like to swim like a fish, you may just get your chance. Engineer Ted Ciamillo has come up with a carbon fiber and fiberglass monofin, allowing a swimmer power through the water at 8 mph, twice the speed of Michael Phelps. [Gizmowatch via Slippery Brick]

Come on guys, let’s at least do SOME research into a story instead of assuming the other guy did.
1) the inventor is American, from Athens GA. He is not Greek.
2) The new fin has propelled swimmers at eight (8) MPH – it is dolphins who go at 33 MPH and convert 80% of their energy into thrust.
At least you got the relationship to Phelps’ speed correct – 8 MPH is twice Phelps’ speed.
And this information took me all of 15 seconds (two clicks) to determine by going back to the original article in Scientific American.

Wrong – not 33 mph, 8 mph. You quoted the original article incorrectly. 33 mph is a dolphin’s speed.
