Stem cell research, which was virtually shut down under the Bush administration has a new lease of life under Obama with almost a thousand lines of human embryonic stem cells being open to research (Bush had limited research to a few dozen lines). However, the sun revolves around the Earth types will still have something to smile about as scientists will still be banned from creating new lines of stem cells.
At any rate, a thousand lines is better than a few dozen, and should be enough to kick off research into new therapies for a range of incurable diseases and conditions. It is a good start. [Ars]
