Cooking Eggs The Artfully Scientific WayStumble This

hard-boiled-egg-cookingBefore we continue let me state for the record that I am an above average cook (meaning that I can cook stuff that looks and tastes good and even manage a few of the more technical cooking methods); yet I have screwed up more boiled eggs than I can remember. Eggs might be easy to cook, but cooking them perfectly requires mathematical precision; and can be greatly assisted by cool little flash app like this one, created by the University of Oslo.

The tool is in Norwegian, but figuring out how it works is not rocket science and over at Life Hacker they have been kind enough to post a translation. You might want to find someone who has an altimeter, because you will need to enter your height above sea level. Apart from that the settings are easy.

Incidentally, the best steak bar none that I have ever eaten was cooked by an engineer on a grill who had applied some serious scientific method to figuring out the best cooking time. [Kunsten å koke et egg, Translation via Lifehacker]
