DIY: How to Make a KatanaStumble This

Most people will never get the chance to make a katana, but the process that is involved is nothing short of amazing. If you live in Japan, around Tokyo, you can actually take lessons from master swordsmiths, but it will take years before you are able to produce a proper Japanese sword.

Some quick facts: If you want to buy one, you can expect to be paying $7,000 to a lot more and you would be better off ordering a sword from outside of the country (there are limits to how many swords a swordsmith can sell in country and that makes for some long waiting lists). Japanese swords are a lot lighter than most people would imagine, in fact most practice swords are heavier than the real thing; think tennis racket as opposed to baseball bat.
