Upgrade decisions typically involve a lot of what-ifs, more so if you are planning on upgrading to a release candidate. Obviously you are going to need to have a computer that at least meets the minimum specification requirements of Windows 7, but there is another aspect that many people do not think about when it comes to an upgrade, the hardware. If you drivers are not up to date or worse still if your hardware is not yet supported, it can really take the zing out of a shiny new operating system.
Fortunately, the folks at Redmond have a solution, the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It will let you know if your computer is capable of making the upgrade and whether you need to make any driver updates or have any hardware incompatibilities. It is highly recommended, especially if you only have one computer at home, lest you find yourself going to your friends house to Google: “Windows 7 Internet doesn’t work”, or search terms to that effect.
