Belkin Gets Some Gigabit Powerline EthernetStumble This

If you have never tried powerline ethernet, it is a pretty cool thing. It takes the work out of wiring two rooms together, just plug one unit into one socket and the other into another and you should be able to get some pretty good connection speed; providing the cabling in your house/apartment is in good condition.

What sets Belkin’s unit apart is the speed, most of the cheaper units top out at 100mbps or so, but Belkin are claiming that their latest offering will hit 1,000mbps; that’s a lot of ones and zeroes. Just be sure of your electrical wiring first. I bought myself a powerline kit about a year and a half ago and it worked fine until I added an iMac and a second monitor to my office – and now it only works when one of the computers is off (which kind of defeats the purpose of having it at all and has seen the kit banished to my big box of computer parts).

Price: $150 for a starter kit. [Belkin via DVICE]
