While most coffee devices are designed to make the brewing process more convenient, here is one that seems determined to make it less so. Rather than using hot water to extract the coffee goodness from the grinds, this hourglass-style contraption uses cold water and lots of time. Seriously, it will take you 24-hours to extract the essential oils and other assorted crap, which you then turn into coffee by adding hot water.
The result is supposed to be a mellower brew, that is 67% less acidic (which means that it will less likely to cause reflux), and contains less tannins (which means it won’t taste as bitter). You should be able to produce enough extract to make up to eight cups, and it can keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
If you are not a fan of a good bitter, sludgy coffee then you are no friend of mine. But seriously, is anyone else curious as to what would result from drinking 8 cups worth of coffee extract in a couple of gulps? I am actually considering parting with $80 just to find out.
