Deer Whistle Keeps Drivers and Wildlife Safely Apart

Picture this, you are screaming along a wide country road on a sports bike – then out of nowhere, a deer appears on the road (in a country that doesn’t have a lot of them). You are going too fast to avoid it, so you plow straight in, get thrown off your bike, fly through the air, slide along the road and come to a halt some distance from your now trashed bike with a busted leg for your troubles. The deer was killed instantly, by the way.

While you are in hospital recovering, you then have to explain to some overzealous police that you are not going to sign the paper that they want you to sign because it admits that you were riding dangerously and over the 50km/ph limit.

That happened to a friend of mine a couple of years ago. He learned his lesson and stuck to his story – thus avoiding the loss of license, traffic school and fine that they wanted to issue him. The thing is, it could possibly have been avoided with an $8 whistle that clips onto the front of cars or bikes. The manufacturer says that at speeds over 35 MPH (which are the ones that are going to cause you the most damage). The sound is inaudible to humans, but the manufacturer tells you that it will cause deer, elk, moose & antelope to “freeze in their tracks” – instead of running onto the road in front of you.

The Deer Whistle can be concealed behind a grill, or under the bumper – it only needs airflow to do what it does. If you’ve got a bike or small car it could save you from a nasty collision. For those that drive more substantial vehicles, you have to decide whether potential bumper damage is a greater concern than a free supply of venison.

Price: $7.98 [Random Good Stuff]
