Getting shot anywhere would suck unimaginably, but some places are worse than others. Something that the groin, the abdomen and the neck have in common is that they are places where you cannot apply a tourniquet to stop uncontrolled bleeding – which, according to the U.S. Army Medical Department Journal, accounts for 25% of potentially survivable battlefield deaths.
The Combat Ready Clamp, or CRoC as it is more affectionately known, is designed to control groin bleeds and the $445 device is kind of a big deal for soldiers out in the field – because it is estimated that it will save three lives a month.
