Emergency Phone Allegedly Squeezes 15 Years of Life From One AA

The SpareOne cell phone (pictured above) is brought to us by Xpal Power (owners of Energizer and PowerSkin) and is designed for use in emergencies. It is a cell phone stripped down to the barest of bare essentials: it doesn’t run apps, it doesn’t have a screen – all it can do is make phone calls.

Obviously, this is not going to be your main phone, but it accepts any GSM SIM or microSIM and a single battery will last (if the developer’s claims are to be believed) for 15 years. Obviously, that 15 years is the standby time. This idea makes sense given the pathetic life of most smartphones and the speed at which their batteries degrade.

Price: $50 [Engadget]
