This Vest Keeps You Cool; Oh, and Makes It So You Don’t Die When Someone Shoots You

When you’re out protecting the world from bad guys, there’s nothing worse than having a sweaty back.  Actually there is something worse, which is dying, and exactly why you’re wearing that monstrosity under your shirt to begin with.   Swiss company Empa realized that there was a problem to be solved and created this new bulletproof vest that has a cooling mechanism they call the “CoolPad” built right into it.  The pad is a semi-pourus pouch containing water that gradually evaporates, allowing the air around it to be cooled.  The vest is also equipped with two small fans that help to circulate the air over the wearer’s body for up to 3 or 4 hours.  ”What happens then?” you ask?  Well, the pouch can be replaced with a portable refill station, and the fans can be interchanged with other fans equipped with fresh batteries.  Seems like a lot to carry, but the vest has been tested on the Zurich City police, who have given it rave reviews.  The vest is said to be on it’s way to commercial production, so keep it on your radar so that you can try an sell “the Captain” on it when it does.  I’m sure he’ll probably look at you as if you’re wearing Hello Kitty earrings in your nostrils, tell you it’s not in the budget, make some sarcastic remark like “Yeah, first we’ll get a coffee machine that actually makes something other than brown water!”  then say something rude about you needing to get back to work, and wave you off, but that’s because I watched a lot of TV over the course of my life, and that’s what makes sense in my head.
