Lego Wheelchair is Functional, Slow and Really Expensive

Here is a do-it-yourself project that is a bit of a tease. The 44-pound wheelchair was built by Simon Burfield out of Lego. The build included “six Lego Mindstorms NXTs, 12 Mindstorms motors, 12 Lego Mindstorms touch sensors… and a whole load of Lego Technic.”

Awesome, right? Unfortunately, it is a bit of a tease. Here’s why: the maximum capacity is around 198-lb, so that effectively rules it out for the kinds of people that would be inclined to give up walking around their homes. For the rest of us, it looks like fun.
