Overenthusiastic Taiwanese Gamer Dies After 40-Hour Diablo 3 Game-a-Thon

A teenage Taiwanese gamer has succumbed to the rigors of a 40-hour Diablo 3 session. The 18-year-old, who is identified only as Chuang booked a private room at a cafe in Tainan, souther Taiwan and played Diablo 3 for nearly two days without eating.

On the morning of July 15 a cafe attendant found Chuang resting on a table. The attendant woke him, he stood, took a few steps and collapsed. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. At the time of writing there is no official cause of death, but it has been speculated that the long hours in a sedentary position could have caused cardiovascular problems.

I’m guessing there were multiple factors at play. No food for that length of time would not be an issue. If he didn’t move from his chair for 40 hours then I’m guessing that he wasn’t drinking – that or you know… the way of the road. If he was drinking enough fluid then you’d think that he would have been moving enough to stave off death. [Source]
