The Unbreakable Umbrella is New Again, But Check Those Prices

On the Interwebs, what’s old can be new again – and that is a good thing… because it means that we can take another look at the Unbreakable Umbrella, which could very well be the most covetable rain protection / weapon mashup in the the history of rain protection / weapon mashups (excepting the KGB umbrella gun, of course). While I think it makes an awesome self defense weapon, when I saw that The Fancy had it “on sale” for $180, I couldn’t help but think that something was up at the price.

After a little research, I found out that the Unbreakable Umbrella had indeed been listed for $180 – all the way back in 2009. That wasn’t a sale price, it was the regular price. These days, they’re going for a much more affordable $129.95 with free priority shipping anywhere in the U.S. If you don’t live in the United States, they’ve got love for you too, but that love will cost you an extra $40. If nothing else, this should be a timely reminder to shop around.

As someone who has dabbled in a few martial arts that make use of sticks, I can certainly see how this would be effective. Aside from bashing your opponent into submission, there are all kinds of ways that you can use the umbrella as a lever… if you know what you are doing and have done a lot of practice. The video below shows the umbrella being used in a range of techniques where one would normally use a hanbo or jo. It stands up to the abuse and the hook at the end makes for some delightfully artistic improvisation.

Price: $129.95 is the cheapest we’ve seen.
