It is unfortunate that this leather wallet with digital picture viewer is so damned ugly, because it is a pretty cool idea; at least for those that feel compelled to carry pictures around in their wallets. If you like me find the blare of an alarm clock a horrible way to start the day, then you have probably considered alternatives. Philips has just produced the most interesting alternative that I have seen to date. It is called the Wake Up Light and it rouses you from your slumber with a light that simulates sunrise by gradually increasing in intensity; you set it to begin thirty minutes before you want to get up so that it doesn’t jolt you awake at the last minute. The Wake Up Light can also simulate nature sounds like singing birds and babbling brooks for extra effect.
I do recall a concept a while back that was a pillow that did the same sort of thing, but this sounds a whole lot better and it is an actual product that you can buy or at least will be able to buy very soon. If it can take the pain out of waking up, I am all for it. [Philips via Crunch Gear]
I am not a member of the cult of Mac, I have never owned one but I have used one. They aren’t bad, just not my cup of tea. I am a Windows man, but you know what? If you say something bad about Windows, I won’t get my panties in a bunch. The reason for this is that while I might not be a beautiful and unique snowflake, I am also not my operating system. You can criticize my usage of Windows or Microsoft Word, or Adobe Photoshop or whatever games I like to play and I will remain truly unaffected. I don’t care, I learned long ago to form my own opinions and not to put too much stock into those of people that I have and never will meet.
Recently a Japanese engineer panned the Macbook Air on Nikkei Electronics. Brooke Crothers, who lived in Japan and has a seemingly good command of the Japanese language seems more than a little miffed that a Japanese engineer claims the Mac Air is beautiful on the outside but junk on the interior. She goes on in detail about the engineer’s specific complaints which seem more of an ego trip on her part in demonstrating her knowledge of Japanese than anything else. She seems convinced that this engineer is simply lambasting the Air because Japan does not have a similarly thin and sexy model. Could it not be because he genuinely believes that the internals of the Air are garbage? Why does Brooke Crothers even care?
For the record, I am going to say that the Macbook Air looks like a sweet piece of hardware. I won’t buy one because I need a bit more functionality from my systems. I would probably opt for a Lenovo or even a Dell before I bought a Mac. I have too much invested in software and am too comfortable in Windows to really contemplate a switch. Maybe one day I will give it a try, but not on my present budget.

Ace Bayou has brought out a gaming chair that I think is pretty cool. I am sure it is not going to blow anyway with the sound quality. It only offers 4.1 channel, the speakers are removable. You can plug pretty much whatever you want into it to get your game or music on. There are two X-Rocker gaming chairs, the X-Rocker Pro-Series and the X-Rocker 4.1. The X-Rocker 4.1 should give you the better sound, but the X-Rocker Pro-Series is better if you have friends. You can bolt multiple chairs together and enjoy some multiplier action… not that I have any friends.
I have to say that they look quite plush. Having spent the last eight years of my life in Japan, I am pretty comfortable with sitting low to the floor. The perfect thing for my new gaming room! No word on price, but I am thinking this won’t be over the top.
Now that we have digital music, there appears to be little reason to purchase a lowly radio / CD player combo these days. On the other hand, a NASCAR Helmet Shaped Radio / CD Player is another story altogether.
