Top 13 Coolest Toys On The Planet

For the 3rd year in a row, we bring you the coolest collection of toys on the planet. As we do ever year we add one more number to the list from the year previously which takes us to lucky number 13.

Without further ado, here is the 2008 collection of the coolest toys around. From hand crank locomotives to a dinosaur that gives bouncy rides, these toys are perfect for kids of all ages. Enjoy.

The Hand Crank Locomotives

The Hand Crank Locomotives

The hand crank trains makes me wish I was a kid again, or at least a kid with rich parents.

This is the heirloom locomotive reminiscent of the ones encountered at carnivals and fairs in the 1940s that uses the simple pushing and pulling of a child’s arms on a hand-crank to propel it around an outdoor track. Each of the two included locomotives is made from cast aluminum with stainless-steel crank handles, and supports a single child up to 100 lbs. Minimal effort is required of children as they crank, so each train glides easily on precision-crafted, cast-iron wheels with a familiar “click-clack” sound with no slipping. The 30′ diam. 12-gauge circular track is made of welded steel, and sets up in under one hour with the included fasteners and wrenches;  Includes two locomotives and track. Includes two nylon covers to protect locomotives. Ages 3-13.

Snowball Blaster

Firing your Snowball Blaster is a simple process, pack the snow into the forming chambers, pull back the slingshot firing mechanism and let rip on targets up to 50 feet away. There are three forming chambers, which make three snowballs that are said to be perfectly spherical. You will always win the snowball fight as long as the snowball blaster is around.

EyeClops Night Vision Goggles

If your looking for a great excuse to buy the night vision goggles, ThinkGeek has you covered:

Here’s the situation: you wake up in the middle of the night and you have to pee. Real bad. But you don’t want to turn on all the lights, for they will burn your eyes with their incandescence. So, you either injure yourself, stumbling in the darkness, or you wet your bed. Neither is fun. If you have some of these awesome Night Vision Goggles next to your bed, you’ll be able to see in the dark and pee in safety and ease.

Ok, so you might think these things are just toys, the type that say “night vision” but really just have a pop out flashlight. Nope. These are the real deal; true infrared night vision, for the price of a toy. You can’t imagine the happy dance we did when we realized these worked really well. Now we can sneak around like the ninjas we know we are, in the dark, watching all - and you won’t be able to see us. Unless you’re a ninja too, and have some EyeClops Night Vision Goggles of your own.

FBI Pwns Cyber-criminals With Dark Market Sting

On the surface, Darkmarket.ws appeared much like any other Internet platform used by fraudsters to trade their wares. Members traded in just about everything that could turn a dishonest buck, ranging from specialized hardware to personal data, electronic banking details, credit card information and fake IDs.

The difference with Darkmarket, however, that it was being operated by the man; the man in this case being one J. Keith Mularski, a senior cybercrime agent for the FBI who is based with the National Cyber Forensics Training Alliance in Pittsburgh and who went by the name of Master Splynter to penetrate the criminal network. With Darkmarket now shuttered, we can expect the arrests to start any day now. Don’t drop the soap boys.

MPAA Strikes Back, EliteTorrents Case Sees First User Conviction

MPAA
The closing of Elite Torrents may feel like it was a lifetime ago, but those involved are finding that the wheels of justice turn slowly. In 2005, 10 people were arrested in relation to the administration of EliteTorrents and the distribution of pirated material on the site. Dale Dove, a 26-year-old from Clintwood Virginia, was one of those ten and has just been found guilty of felony copyright infringement and conspiracy. (more…)

MicroFueler Fuels Your Car With Homebrewed Ethanol

MicroFueler
Distilling ethanol can be a tricky and highly precise business, but Floyd S. Butterfield and Thomas J. Quinn claim to have created a backyard ethanol distillery that turns sugar and yeast to a fuel that is clean enough to fill a gas tank with. According to Quinn, the cost of fuel produced by the E-Fuel 100 MicroFueler is approximately $1 per gallon; cheap enough to strike fear into an oil baron’s heart.

The technology that makes it all possible is a membrane filtration system that allows ethanol to be distilled at a much lower temperature. Sugar is used as fuel for distillation as it creates little to no unpleasant odor; though it should be pointed out that Quinn and Butterfield are also working on a model that uses feed stock other than sugar. T-1000 Portable Cellphone Jammer, Cool but Probably Illegal to Operate

Cell Phone Jammer

There are good reasons why it is illegal to operate a cellphone jammer. As annoying as phones ringing in movie theaters are, there is no way to know if there is a call that someone really needs to make or take. People do have emergencies and do use their phones in them. For this reason I would never use a cellphone jammer in a public place.

For a bit of private mayhem, however, something like the T-1000 could be a lot of fun. Turn it on and you will block all communications in a 3-foot to 10-foot area, not very far I know but far enough. It will knock out AMPS, CDMA, TDMA, PCS, GSM, DCS, Nextel, iDEN and 3G voice signals. As a bonus, it looks like the first cellphone I ever owned. It has a great market in the tinfoil hat wearing crowd.

Price: $240

Apologies for the size of the picture, it was the only one they had.
