Swiss Army Officer’s Trunk: Handsome, Durable and Really, Really Expensive

officertrunk
The Swiss Army Officer’s trunk is an expensive enough piece of travel hardware that most people probably won’t bother, but for there is a truly awesome piece of travel hardware to be had for those that do.

Features include:

  • Aircraft-grade aluminum handle with Geluxe™ Comfort Grip
  • Urethane wheels with bearings
  • Trunk style lid
  • Twill lining
  • Hidden ID tray
  • Travel Sentry® Approved Lock.

Depending on how often you travel, a case like this can either be an investment in sanity or a total waste of money. If you make more than one long-haul flight per year then a good suitcase would definitely be worth considering. Someone who travels less often should probably just grin and bear it.

Price: $450-650 (priced according to size) [We Interrupt]

Paul Smith Train Set In A Briefcase Allows Model Train Aficionados To Take Their Secret Shame To Work… Secretly

suitcasetrainset
Model train enthusiasts can be a scary bunch, depending on how extent to which their fascination strikes them. Having a little train set in a briefcase would make you king of a really nerdy castle, and there are people that are prepared to spend big bucks to achieve just that (which is probably the logic that led to a fashion designer selling a train set).

Pink Wolf Weapon Suitcase, a One Way Ticket to the No Fly List

Not that I think anyone would be stupid enough to try to carry one of these past a humorless airport security goon, but in case you think it would make a nice joke, allow me to inform you that it is probably the quickest conceivable way to a latex-gloved body cavity search in an airport backroom. With my disclaimer made, I can now inform you that the cases feature faux hatchets, knives and guns and are produced by French designer PinkWolf. There is no word on pricing or availability, but there is a contact point on the designer’s website in case you want to get one. [PinkWolf via Oh Gizmo, NotCot]

Samsonite OBAG – Big, Impractical and With Little Room for Stuff

The OBAG is a suitcase in a giant wheel, designed to make getting around with your bulky belongings a little bit easier. While I will contend that the OBAG would make getting around a lot easier, I mean this thing would roll straight over stairs and what not, I have to say it does not look to be the most practical of designs. There is a reason why suitcases are square, it is because square cases can pack more stuff into them. This case looks like it can hold at best a change of clothes and thus not up to scratch for international travel. [Yanko Design via Crib Candy, Oh Gizmo]

Battery Powered Suitcase, A Cool Idea But…

Power Lift Luggage
O.K. I must admit that the idea of battery powered suitcases like the LiveLuggage power assisted (PA series) tickles me pink. I have done more than my fair share of long haul traveling and if there is one thing I hate, it is lugging a heavy suitcase around. Sure, you can get wheeled bags, but even they require a bit of muscle power, especially if A to B is a particularly long distance. (more…)
