he merchandising for Quantum of Solace is getting interesting with Sony putting out a limited edition Bond-themed Vaio TT Series Notebook. It features carbon fiber black casing tand comes with a 007 logo and a leather case. It comes with an 11.1? widescreen LCD display, 2GB RAM, 64GB Solid State Drive, HDMI out, and a pair of noise canceling headphones. I think I also spied a fingerprint reader.

The Sony Vaio TT, or a variant of it has been floating around here in Japan for sometime, however, its latest incarnation, which has made it Stateside is a little bit more exciting than the TTs of yore. This thing weighs in at slightly less than the Mac Book Air, yet comes with an integrated optical drive (which has the option of being upgraded to Bluray. You can also opt for a dual channel 256GB solid state drive with RAID support. Features include an 11.1 inch screen, Centrino 2 processor and integrated Sprint EV-DO.
Not a bad little package, a little bigger than the web books that have been proliferating these days, but with a whole lot more functionality.

I read things sometimes that give me cause to question the credibility of some of the printed media journalist types. Take the following article that I found on Yahoo! News, the title is, PCs losing their relevance in Japan. It starts with some typically sensationalistic preamble:
TOKYO - Masaya Igarashi wants $200 headphones for his new iPod Touch, and he’s torn between Nintendo Co.’s Wii and Sony’s PlayStation 3 game consoles. When he has saved up again, he plans to splurge on a digital camera or flat-screen TV.
Okay so far, but then look at the tripe that spills forth from Ms. Tabuchi’s keyboard, this is where I smell a rat:
The PC’s role in Japanese homes is diminishing, as its once-awesome monopoly on processing power is encroached by gadgets such as smart phones that act like pocket-size computers, advanced Internet-connected game consoles, digital video recorders with terabytes of memory. (more…)
