In 2006, it was revealed that NASA had lost some 173 first-generation magnet tapes containing unseen data from the Apollo moon missions. One set of tapes was revealed to be in Australia, by 74-year-old Perth consulting physicist, Brian O’Brien. It has been revealed that in the lead up to the opening of the Burj Dubai Mall, that sand tiger sharks in the 10-million-liter aquarium that the mall houses have killed at least 40 smaller and more docile reef sharks. Unfortunately, that is not the best for the environment, more so in my native Australia, but it applies pretty much equally everywhere. The Eco Showerdrop times and measures your shower so that you can get out in a reasonable amount of time, after a reasonable amount of water has been used or just feel so guilty that you avoid bathing all together.
Price: $20-25 - Available in the U.K. [EcoKettle via Smart Planet, Tree Hugger]

At 35kgs, boxed, bound in leather and with silver edging it seems an understatement to call the newly published Atlas EARTH a weighty tome. It has taken Australian author the best part of twenty years to put this 580 page monster together. Arguably the most awesome-sounding feature is a fold out photo of the earth at night that measures two meters across.
More details after the jump. (more…)
