Omas Limited Edition Moon Landing Pen

omas-one-small-step_hyasa_48
There are probably cheaper ways to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing, but if you are Bill Gates or that guy who invented Doom, then you might as well do it with style. (more…)

Steve Jobs Just Finished Building a Chair Made of iPhones: PC World’s Celebrity Facebook Pages

picture-3
In case you have been living under a rock and missed one of the best April Fool’s gags of all time (which I did) here is what happened. The guys at PC World put together some fake Facebook pages from a few celebrities for April 1. I won’t bore you with all of the details except to show you can check out all of the pages here if you want to do that.

What I will say is this, the Bill Gates and Steve Jobs submissions are very, very cool. Jobs says the kind of things one would expect them to say if they were in their early twenties, not gainfully employed, still living with their parents an unhealthy amount of time flaming folks on Digg but Gates comes across as a real gentleman. Gates page after the jump. (more…)

Goodbye Bill, We’ll Miss You

Bill Gates
Bill Gates retired on Friday, so I think that it is only fitting that we pay tribute to the guy who pretty much shaped the personal computing world of today. I don’t care if you are the most diehard MacFan on the block, we all owe an awful lot to Bill Gates. (more…)

Windows Seven Next Year?

Bill Gates

Rumors are flying thick and fast that we will see the release of Windows Seven as early as 2009. That would put Windows Vista into almost the same category as Windows Me. These rumors are thanks to comments made by none other than Bill Gates himself, though it should be noted that there is no way to be sure whether he was implying that it would be commercially available in that time frame or whether it would be getting a Beta release in 2009. Still, food for thought.

Here are a few things that I would like to see Microsoft do in Windows Seven:

  • Multi-language – I do not understand why it is so difficult to have multi-language menus.
  • Single version – All this Ultimate, Business, Home Premium and Basic nonsense really rubbed me the wrong way.
  • Bring the price down to less than $200, better yet make it $100.
  • Get serious about 64-bit.
  • Reduce the boot time.

I won’t be jumping on the Windows Seven bandwagon unless I have a compelling reason to do so.

Solid Gold Santa is Ridiculous and Disgraceful

Gold Santa

Tokyo jeweler Ginza Tanaka is responsible for this monstrosity. I can think of a million reasons why this is wrong, in fact I can think of two million reasons. I am all for owning fine things. Buy the biggest flat screen television in the world, get the biggest and baddest speakers on the planet, buy your own Airbus or 747, get a ridiculously huge yacht. All those items, though extravagant, have function. A solid gold Santa idol, however, is a sign of something very wrong. No one needs it, it does nothing and it costs $2,000,000. If you have that sort of money, take a leaf out of the book of Bill Gates and develop a social conscience. $2,000,000 can pay for a lot of things that are more worthwhile and that will allow you to go to bed thinking that you helped to make a difference.
