This DIY coffee table takes its inspiration from a global graffiti trend in as much as it does from the game. The table makes use of handmade Mexican Talavera tiles to give the pixellated space invaders a less-precise, handmade touch.
According to Sean Ragan, who created the table:
These (handmade Mexican Talavera) tiles, like most handmade artifacts, are imprecise and show significant natural lumpiness and variation. The depiction of the precise, orderly, pixellated image of the space invader sprite would be boring if executed in precisely manufactured injection-molded bathroom tiles from the big orange store. The slightly uneven tile heights and lightly meandering grout lines lend a warmth to the image which would otherwise be lacking.

The pictured Jack o’ Lantern mug has all that you could ask for in a mug with a little bit extra thrown in for good measure. It holds liquid, loosk pretty cool, though in a kitschy kind of way, lights up via LED and is amazingly cheap. What more needs to be said?

As the Big Time table is most likely quite expensive, I doubt that any employers would consider installing them in break rooms, but were they mass-produced it might be a different story. The Big Time table is quite simply a table shaped like a giant LED watch. It has slim sliding drawers and buttons that work, and that allow you to display date, seconds and an 8-letter message. As standard the table comes in 240V, but the maker will install 110V at your request.
Price: Generally when they say “on asking” it means that it is going to be so much that it would otherwise scare you off the page. [Lee J Rowland via Book of Joe]

I have just come to realize that my coffee table sucks, well no it doesn’t, not exactly, but this one is much better. The table is based on Bodium Castle in East Sussex, and comes as a three dimensional puzzle that you will have to build yourself. You can choose from a range of different glass tops, including chess and backgammon. (more…)
