Whether or not these sterling silver watch movement cufflinks are “steampunk” or not is up for debate, but they look pretty cool.
They would be infinitely cooler if the cannibalized Swiss watch movements actually moved, but then they would probably cost significantly more than the $60 that Etsy seller qacreate is charging.

Clearly, people fifty years ago were not nearly as concerned about the message that a pair of tiny working lighter cufflinks would send to children, because they were distributed via gumball machines. An Etsy seller refurbished some unused sets, but sadly they have all sold out.
Not quite enough to actually make me wish I was a kid fifty years ago, but more than enough to make me want to scour the Interwebs for another pair. They are out there, we just need to find them.

Measuring just 38mm in length, these Austrian pinfire 2mm pistols come in significantly smaller than the Swiss Mini Gun. They were made in Austria between 1904 and 1970s and originally designed to be used for cufflinks or fob chains. (more…)
