Ben Heck might have underwhelmed with his last controller mod, but this one is very cool. It lacks the usual finish of a Heck project because it is more of an experimentation. It looks unwieldy, but having had an injury that left me without the use of my hand for almost a year 15 years ago, I can tell you that it would have offered welcome distraction – and if you use anything like this for long enough you are bound to get a knack for it..

If you have trouble waking up in the morning and getting up is more important than your hearing, then I definitely recommend following this guy’s lead. [Oh Gizmo!]
If you are one of those power users that uses a laptop and a separate keyboard the Stand by AIAIAI is on of the coolest laptop stands I have ever come across. It has a DIY look but with special touches like soft touch rubber coating. Available in 3 colors, white, black and a must have yellow. The 14.2” wide and 6” high should work for most laptops on the market today.
Here in Japan, backyards are for rich folks and farmers only, but if I had one, setting up a backyard theater would be high on my list of priorities. It can get expensive, but building your own is a great way to keep the costs down.
Geekdad pulled off a respectable job for $247.75, and that included a professionally installed awning, which he used to beat a self-imposed deadline, so it could possibly be put together for $50-100 less (as long as you have a projector handy).
While near space launches, even by balloon, used to cost astronomical sums of money, advances in computer technology and most importantly, ever cheapening camera equipment have meant that just about anyone with the inclination and the skills can make it happen.
The launch in this video was carried out using Arduino technology with a special protective camera case. As part of the tracking system, John Gordon also sent his cell phone up to the edge of the atmosphere, which makes for a pretty cool story of its own.
