As this will be our final post for 2008, I would like to say thanks to all the great readers of this site. A special thanks goes out to anyone who has linked to the site, submitted material to other sites, forums, communities or just happened to stumble upon us. As usual, to end the year off, I have complied pictures linking to our top 10 posts according to our website statistics.
The Year ahead should be an exciting one. I hoping to add a new coat of paint to the site and I will be launching a new site in 2009, so keep your eyes open for both.
My New Years resolution is to become an active member of Twitter. You can follow me here @vdasilva and you can follow Chris (aka C.S. Magor) here @CSMagor
Have a great and safe New Year and see you in 2009.

Daniel Deutsch must really, really love Star Wars, otherwise there would be little reason to build your own Land Speeder replica, which is what Danel did and he did a fantastic job of it too.

Onkyo has always made great products in the low-mid range of the price spectrum. Don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting that $300 -$400 is cheap for a receiver, but that is what you can expect to shell out for something that will give you acceptable performance. It is not audiophile equipment, but it will sound very good to the average person, which for most of us, is all that we need. Onkyo’s two new releases are the , which are similar in most respects. The slightly pricier TX-SR576 will put 80 Watts into each of the seven channels, while the TX-SR506 will give you 75 Watts.
Other than that, they are essentially the same technology according to Audio Junkies:
Both receivers use 32-bit DSP processing and 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converters on all eight channels of surround processing for Dolby Digital EX, Dolby ProLogic IIx, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, and DTS Neo:6. Both will be available this April.
With the option to bi-amp your stereo speakers with the rear and front channels, you should see some impressive performance. If that is not enough, both models are capable of powering a second zone. So long as you are prepared to forgo two channels of sound in your main zone, you can enjoy a separate stream of stereo sound in another zone. If you don’t have the budget for your own over the top home theater, either of these amps will get you through the door and play sound that is more than acceptable.
Prices: $479 for the Onkyo TX-SR576 and $379 for the TX-SR506

This is quite far from classic steampunk I realize, but it fits the definition in many respects. For those of you that do not know, the Nautilus is the name of Captain Nemo’s submarine in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Michael Malone, a Dallas-based architect designed this home theater based on the text description of the interior of the Nautilus in Jules Verne’s novel of the late 1800s. It is automated via an AMX control system and has a very impressive list of equipment. No word on price, but we are guessing that it cost a pretty penny. The equipment list, as published in Home Entertainment Magazine is featured below:

For any would be kitchen maestros out there, this could be the thing for you. The spice gun is a clever little idea that allows you to blast your food with spices. Simply put:
Spice gun is different from the other casters, it has more fun! When you pull the trigger to compress the air in the air bag the handspike will push the bottom of the seasoning bottle to make the nozzle in the turntable to retract and spray the seasoning.
I do a lot of cooking in my extended seasonal vacations and I can see this thing serving a purpose. Pack it full of seasonings for some barbecue fun. Blast your spices into the cavity of a chicken without getting your hands dirty. Load it up with dried herbs and fire them over a pizza (I like fresh herbs as much as the next man but they are just too damned expensive in winter here in Japan). I want one of these, if it ever makes its way from a concept to store shelves, I am buying one
