Videos: Super Nerd Proposes to His Special Lady Using Custom Made Video Game Level


This story is so sickly sweet that I am resisting the urge to dry heave as I write it. Can you think of anything more nerdy than proposing to your special someone using a hacked ROM? I didn’t think so, but that’s what this guy did. He created a whole level to sum up their shared moments. Indian Teen Commits Suicide Over LHC Fears


While I was sorely tempted to write some spoof piece about the end of the world yesterday, something deep inside told me that it would be a bad idea. There are people who were genuinely afraid of that thing and the potential for someone to do something rash and totally irreversible was always there. As is evidenced by the case of Chayya, a 16-year-old girl from the state of Madhya Pradesh in India, who drank pesticide out of the fear that the world was going to end when CERN turned on the LHC.

While what happened to young Chayya is very sad, we are fortunate that none of the idiots that were sending death threats to physicists made good on their warnings. [News.com.au]

Cassettes Still Sell, In Prison


In my travels on the Internet today, I came across an interesting piece of trivia: that cassettes are still achieving booming sales - in prisons, the owner of prison mail-order company Pack Central is claiming $600,000 worth of sales per year. The reason is pretty obvious when you think about it, CDs can be broken into sharp shards that can be used as stabbing weapons. Not so, the humble cassette, but it does need to have the little metal screws removed before it is prison-ready.
