Maybe I am just speaking for myself here when I say that the iTie is the Jump to conclusions mat of gadget wear; but I don’t think so. The iTie is essentially just a necktie with a pocket in the back big enough to stick an iPod Nano or a credit card, and with a clip to fix it to your shirt so that it doesn’t flap around.
There are a range of colors, or if you are crafty you can order the pockets and install them yourself, though one suspects that if you can install a pocket you can probably make one and save yourself the cost of this ridiculous product.
I am not sure who it was at Urban Tool that had the lightning bolt of inspiration that told them putting iPod controls into a shirt was a good idea. It is basically a wearable iPod dock without any speakers. You stick your iPod in a little pocket and work the controls by fingering different parts of the fabric. For someone who works out or does a lot of cycling, it probably sounds like a pretty good idea, until you check the price and consider the fact that it really only requires minimal effort to take your iPod out of your pocket and change tracks using the controls. Oh and there is also the problem that lycra-esque fabrics only really have a place in the gym and on a bicycle, so you are somewhat limited in where you can use your Groove Rider. On the up side, it is machine washable.
This story might want to make you think twice about keeping your cell phone in your shirt pocket. A quarry worker was found next to an electric shovel with blood coming from his nose and a cellular phone that appeared to be melted in his front pocket. A professor from Chungbuk National University that examined the body of the dead 33-year-old man hypothesized that the cause of death was none other than an exploding cellular phone battery. The phone in question was an unspecified model from LG and there is no word on which battery maker was responsible for the phone in the accident. The explosion caused extensive internal injuries to the man’s heart and lungs; furthermore he also sustained broken ribs and a broken spine. Hard to believe that a little cell phone battery is capable of causing such incredible damage.
It is important to point out that it has not been determined why this particular battery exploded, still it is the second exploding cell phone story I have heard this week. The other exploded during charging for unspecified reasons. And there was that burning iPod story a while back. Hopefully this is not a trend that is going to continue and investigators will get to the bottom of the cause of this terrible event.
Please not that the phone pictured in the title shot is for conceptual purposes only. It is not the phone that was involved in this tragic accident, it is merely of the same brand. We are as of this time unaware what model was involved.
The product may be from Italy, but this form fitting iPolo Shirt is sexy in any language. As you can see, the shirts feature a convenient iPod pocket near the waist–which would make them perfect for listening to your music while at the gym or jogging outdoors. The iPolo also comes in a variety of styles and colors for both men and women–but I was kind of partial to the product image above.
