While the Soyuz Backpack might look pretty sleek, it is actually a pretty sturdy piece of luggage. The biggest selling point to me is the waterproof laptop compartment, which would come in handy during sudden downpours. Aside from that, it has the features that one would expect of a quality backpack: underarm compression buckles, EVA compression molded back panel and some weatherproof external pockets.
Anyone that has done a reasonable amount of cycle commuting has probably been caught by the weather more than once. Clothes dry but soaked laptops stay forever broken, which is why one should never skimp when it comes to one’s choice of backpack. That being said, the price on this one is rather steep, and it would be pretty hard to justify unless it was going to be put to almost constant use.
Price: $180 [Red Ferret]

HP are making the rather audacious claim that their HP EliteBook 6930p can hold up for 24-hours of use on a single charge. This was all accomplished with a new high-capacity battery and a new screen and they probably avoided running processor-heavy apps but it is the type of battery life that dreams are made of. No more cramming your bags with extra batteries when you go traveling; no more external battery packs.
It will be interesting to see how close to the 24-hour mark HP hit when it comes to real-world conditions, but it is exciting news to say the least. Anything has to be better than my 1hr 50min of Mac Book Pro time. Expect to see the HP EliteBook 6930p in all of its glory sometime in October. [HP via TFTS

The Tom Bihn Checkpoint Flyer Laptop Briefcase is pretty much just a laptop bag, but it is designed with security checkpoints in mind. The manufacturer claims that it requires only three-seconds of preparation for the checkpoint procedure.
If you travel with a laptop then you are no doubt aware that things can be a bit of a chore. You have to remove your laptop from the case every time because the X-Ray machines cannot see through all of the bundles of wires. Depending on the airport, you may have to go through more than one security screening. It is not a lot of fun. That’s why we are seeing more and more laptop bags coming out with travel in mind.
The thing is, it will likely take a bit of time before the security goons catch up; they don’t tend to be the most understanding of people (a fact to which I can most certainly attest), so you will probably have to get that laptop out more often than not despite the cases checkpoint-friendly design.
Price: $220 [Tom Bihn via Ubergizmo]

There are a few places that I go where, due to lack of having a desk or any place to sit, I find myself unable to use a computer. Connect-a-desk hopes to change all that. It is a goofy looking strap that you connect to your laptop giving you the support that you need to walk and type. (more…)

The Wiffinder claims to be the the first laptop case with WiFi finder. It seems like a perfect marriage between 2 useful products. Buying additional WiFi detectors never made sense to me, when most laptops already have this capability. Since a majority of people already use a case to carry their laptop, the Wiffinder will cater to those mobile warriors who are looking to jump onto the internet to get their fix. They offer 4 different styles with prices from approximately $60- $100 (€43-€69)
