It is inevitable, faster processors and bigger hard drive capacities will always lead to more useless crap choking up the works. PC Pro has released some astonishing figures regarding the memory and hard disk footprint of bloatware with various manufacturers and the affect that the software has on boot time. The results grate more than they surprise:
- Acer: 2:01 longer boot time, 952MB larger memory footprint, 2.4GB less HDD space
- HP: 1:35 longer boot time, 1.06GB larger memory footprint, 2.18GB less HDD space
- Dell: 0:52 longer boot time, 1.18GB larger memory footprint, 3GB less HDD space
- Sony: 1:54 longer boot time, 1.11GB larger memory footprint, 1.3GB less HDD space

If you are one of those power users that uses a laptop and a separate keyboard the Stand by AIAIAI is on of the coolest laptop stands I have ever come across. It has a DIY look but with special touches like soft touch rubber coating. Available in 3 colors, white, black and a must have yellow. The 14.2” wide and 6” high should work for most laptops on the market today.
Price: $55

While the Soyuz Backpack might look pretty sleek, it is actually a pretty sturdy piece of luggage. The biggest selling point to me is the waterproof laptop compartment, which would come in handy during sudden downpours. Aside from that, it has the features that one would expect of a quality backpack: underarm compression buckles, EVA compression molded back panel and some weatherproof external pockets.
Anyone that has done a reasonable amount of cycle commuting has probably been caught by the weather more than once. Clothes dry but soaked laptops stay forever broken, which is why one should never skimp when it comes to one’s choice of backpack. That being said, the price on this one is rather steep, and it would be pretty hard to justify unless it was going to be put to almost constant use.
Price: $180 [Red Ferret]

The Lamborghini branded laptops that Asus has given us in the past have done little to live up to the reputation of the sports car maker, their specs have been mediocre and there has been no wow factor; and then they made the VX5. It looks good, borrowing style from the limited edition Reventon, but Lamborghini is about performance as much as it is about the look and this machine stands out there as well. (more…)
