The Lego Safe is not just any Lego project, as the video after the jump reveals. It comes packed with a motion sensor, so it can’t be carried off and has a lock with five double digit codes to give a total of 305 billion possible combinations. Once you have dialed up the correct combination on the electronic screen, the door will open automatically; nice. (more…)

The Alaris 30 is a desktop printer that offers prints of 600 x 600 dpi resolution. Big deal you say, but that is three-dimensional printing and there is virtually no end to what you can build with it; it can even create moving, interactive parts. It is designed for printing 3D CAD files, with a process that is as simple as pressing print.

The object tray is 300 x 200 x 150mm, which is big enough for just about anything, if you want something bigger than that, simply design it in multiple parts. With 0.1 - 0.2mm the parts ought to fit flush. While I probably wouldn’t get much more creative than replicating lego blocks and minifigs, there really are some awesome possibilities for this type of printer.

What you see above you folks, as unbelievable as it sounds, is a cake. The cake was commissioned for the launch of the Lego Batman game and is the work of Elisa Strauss. The best part about cakes is generally the eating part, but in this case I don’t know that I could bring myself to do so - who am I kidding, of course I could. [Cake! via MAKE]

The folks in Vienna just put themselves on the Lego map by building a record breaking Lego tower. At 29.48m the size is nothing to sneeze at, in fact it required a crane for the final construction. It was built by hundreds of children to celebrate the four-day 100 Years of Friends of Children festival and really put the hurt on Legoland Windsor in England - beating them by a whole 18cm. I only say “working” because this does not work in the same sense that a traditional V8 works - from the controlled explosion of gasoline. This runs on batteries and is made out of Lego Technics, which doesn’t make it any less impressive. In fact it is right up there with the papercraft V12 we featured a while back. A work of Lego art.
