New Tiny Refrigerated PC Cooling Technology For Laptops and Desktops

Researchers at Purdue University are working on a system that should be able to cool both laptops and desktops. Their system will make use of refrigerants and tiny compressors and should be able to substantially reduce processor heat. While refrigerated cooling systems have been used by hardcore overclockers for some time, the systems have traditionally been bulky and required a great deal of power to run.

The new technology is expected to find its way into desktops within a couple of years and laptops fairly soon after that; so hopefully the next Macbook Pro that I buy will not sear my thighs after ten minutes fo use. [Computer World, National Geographic (image)]

Mac Book Pro

I am convinced that it was the right choice for my work needs, but it will take a little getting used to. (more…)

Ugly Up Your MBA with a MacBook Air Shield

Mac Air Shield
There are a few advantages to the MacBook Air Shield. It does leave your port accessible (singular, there is only one USB port) and it does seem to offer a bit of protection for some of the delicate areas of the machine. To top that off, it is open enough to allow some good airflow. Unfortunately none of these benefits can get me past the fact that the MBA Shield looks as ugly as sin.

If you are going to spend all of that money on a razor thin PC, you don’t want to be uglying it up with mods like this. If you want something ugly, go out and buy a Dell.
