Super Mario 3 Necklace

600_maro-3-necklace
If you want to accessorize with a truly geeky accessory, then a Super Mario 3 cartridge pendant is about as geeky as it gets. It is not a life-sized cartridge, so you can still be a little bit discreet.

Skateboard Chandelier Gleams Your Cube

skateboard-chandelier
If you grew up in the late 80s and early 90s, chances are that your entertainment diet consisted of more than one bad skateboarding movie and you have a soft spot for the four-wheeled boards. So, I am guessing that there may be an untapped market for skateboard chandeliers, but I’m really not sure.

Caffeine in a Necklace

Caffeine Molecule Necklace

Think Geek is back with a caffeine molecule necklace that looks rather snazzy. The caffeine pendant is 1.5 inches wide, crafted out of Sterling silver attached to a Sterling silver chain of 16 – 18 inches in length (it is adjustable). I can’t help but think that this would make a better key ring, but as a necklace it is pretty cool too. It would go nicely with Think Geek’s Caffeine Molecule Stainless Travel Mug.

Price: $84.99, Price for the Mug: $12.99

Sudoku Pendant Lacks Style, Taste and Class

Sudoku Necklace

I like my Sudoku, from time to time I play a bit of flash sudoku on my computer. I might bust out a pencil and paper version if I have to sit through an extended meeting or PTA conference. Sudoku has a place in my life, but I don’t think I would ever wear it around my neck.

The Sudoku necklace features a silver colored frame and a little pewter pencil to be worn around one’s neck. The pencil doesn’t work and the sudoku in the silver colored frame fails to make a point. As a fashion statement, it is reaching, in the wrong way. This pendant on a rubber cord does not look good and it does not look clever.

Price: $25

DisplayLink Brings Multi-Monitor Goodness to the Everyman

RGB-USB

A programmer cousin of mine often raves of the benefits of multi-monitor setups.  He stresses the importance of having one monitor for programming and one for graphical user interface.  The trouble is, until now, this had meant getting a video card that supported more than one monitor.  Not everyone has one of those, but with DisplayLink’s new technology, everyone with a USB port can have a dual monitor setup.

Crave did a test run with some DisplayLink hardware and on the whole, the results looked good.  Where the DisplayLink monitor ran into problems was with displaying high definition video.  Some stuttering was said to occur with 1080p.  The performance is dependant on your CPU.  The more powerful the CPU, the better you can expect it to perform.  This could be great news for the latest multi-core processor owners.

If you purchase a high-end video card, your needs will be better served by getting one with Dual DVI ports.  It keeps the load off the CPU and on the Video Card which is more effective at handling video output.  If, however, you just need an easy way to get an extra monitor on your system, look no further.  DisplayLink technology is cheap and does the job.  One of the cheapest ways to go is the IOData USB Graphic, which comes in at around $92.
