There has been a bit of talk on potential new Apple “Brick”. More than one blogger suggesting that Apple might be planning a new low-cost desktop; something that would knock some of the stuffing out of the low-cost Hackintosh products that have been hitting the market. I disagree with this theory, and am thinking more along the lines of the Gigaom projection, for the simple reason that there is already a Mac Mini – there is no place for a lighter Mac desktop; and any performance boost that they could give the Mac Mini wouldn’t really constitute a new product. I think Apple’s new product will be an affordable, mid-spec home theater PC (HTPC) for masses, that will replace the lackluster Apple TV.

Mouse pads are a funny thing, they are pretty much useless, but they do save you messing up your desk surface with your mouse. At home I use a large Razer eXactMat with a wrist rest, but at work; where I use my mouse less, I make do with whatever is around. Invariably it ends up being a slim textbook or notepad; which is sort of like the The Information Central Mouse Pad; except that is a note pad designed as a mouse pad; cool idea.

The Iomega Camo eGo is a standard portable HDD, with a slightly ruggedized enclosure and a funky camouflage paint job. As far as rugged components go, it has a rubber drop guard that would likely protect your hard drive from some minor bumps and drops (it is good for up to sixty-inches) and would certainly help to prevent it slide off slippery surfaces. While not true rugged technology, it is cheap and kinda looks the part.
As far as specifications go, there is nothing terribly out of the ordinary. It is preformatted for either MAC or Windows, has a capacity of 250GB and has port power. It only offers USB connectivity and weighs in at a little over half a pound. There is an Iomega click of death joke to be made here somewhere, but right now I am too tired to think of it. That and the fact that the guys at Iomega have done a pretty good job of reinventing their company as a manufacturer of cool-looking portable hard disk drives. It is a competent hard drive at a reasonable price, you could do worse.
