Pioneer’s HTS-LX70 is a 5.1 channel home theater system that is ready to use out of the box. The speakers are unobtrusive and ought to add enough sound for the average lounge room. The touchscreen remote gives you control over the system and allows you to kick the auto-calibration process into action. Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-96/24, DTS-ES Decoders and thirteen surround modes are built into the receiver.
Let’s face it, not everyone has the space or the budget for a fully-blown home theater. For most of us, an out-of-the-box home theater system is sufficient. They can provide good sound and they do so for a very reasonable price. If you are living somewhere where space is a premium, there is the added benefit that they are not overly large.
At $1,800, the price is high, but not that high and certainly cheaper than audiophile-grade gear. Note that the BluRay player in the picture is not included in the package. [Pioneer via Audio Junkies]

This is quite far from classic steampunk I realize, but it fits the definition in many respects. For those of you that do not know, the Nautilus is the name of Captain Nemo’s submarine in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Michael Malone, a Dallas-based architect designed this home theater based on the text description of the interior of the Nautilus in Jules Verne’s novel of the late 1800s. It is automated via an AMX control system and has a very impressive list of equipment. No word on price, but we are guessing that it cost a pretty penny. The equipment list, as published in Home Entertainment Magazine is featured below:

The Pioneer “Kuro” range consists of some of the highest quality consumer grade home-theater equipment that can be obtained at a reasonably affordable price. Affordable in this case, does not mean cheap, it is rather the opposite of cheap. The prices are quite high, but within the realms of reason. You do not have to be a millionaire to afford the luxury of Pioneer “Kuro.” Two days ago, we reviewed the absolutely stunning VSA-LX70, today we are going to take a look at the matching Blu-Ray Disk Player, the BDP-LX80.
From the ground up, the BDP-LX80 is a high-end BD player. It offers playback at resolutions of 480/60i, 480/60p, 720/60p, 1080/60i, 1080/60p and 1080/24p. A variety of video outputs at the back of the unit will allow you to pair your BDP-LX80 with any number of displays. Audio outputs include both optical and coaxial options. There is of course HDMI 1.3a and all of the ports are gold plated. For including your BDP-LX80 in your wired home, there is a LAN port. This will allow you to playback files from your computer HDD. PC formats that are supported include MPEG1, MPEG2, WMV9, WMA9, MP3, WAV, JPEG, PNG and GIF.

Pioneer has just released a high-end audio product that can perhaps go with their latest ultra-expensive plasma TV offerings. The Pioneer VSA-LX70 is a 380-Watt amplifier that is designed to match the latest Pioneer high-end video product range. It is the perfect companion to their new ultra-expensive plasma TVs or their new Blu-ray disk player.
There is no mistaking the VSA-LX70 for a low-end product. It has an attractive piano-black finish, impressive lines and a bright screen that is not overstated or gaudy. It is large and heavy without seeming unwieldy. It looks classy and it more than equals its looks with performance. Pioneer do not bother plastering it with different logos, but it has numerous certifications. It is, of course THX Select 2 and DTS-HD certified. Looking at the back, you quickly become aware of the amount of ports. There are a lot of them. The price is high, yet within the budget of many serious, if not excessively wealthy, home theater buffs. (more…)
