The MGS4 PS3 Mod to Rule Them All

Morpheon Mods are the folks behind what is truly a special PS3 mod that is now on the block at eBay. There is an impressive stainless steel MGS4 badge that has been laser cut and which provides just the right amount of contrast to an impressive laser etched image of Solid Snake. It lights up too, courtesy of 14 white micro LEDs. The icing on the cake, depending on which way you look at it could either be Hideo Kojima’s autograph or the carbon fiber Fox Hound logo that can be found at the back of the machine.

The price tag, at the time of writing was $1500 but expect that to go up, there are sure to be a lot of people interested in this one and a few of them will undoubtedly have deep pockets. [PS3 Fanboy via Engadget]

Engineer Shirt, Look Like an Engineer Without all the Junk in Your Pockets

If embrace engineer chic, but don’t like lugging all of that gear in your shirt pocket because let’s face it, you can do everything on your Linux laptop anyway, then you might consider the engineer shirt. It comes complete with a compass, calculator, ruler, triangle and pencil – all lovingly embroidered on a shirt that is just the right shade of inoffensive gray. It also includes a graph paper patterned tie, to complete the effect.

Price: $64.99 [Computergear via Nerd Approved]

iRex 1000 Series eBook Readers - Even More Damned Expensive Than the Last Series

iRex has announced some specs for their new 1000 series, which features the 1000, 1000S and 1000SW. Each of the thousands features a 10.2-inch e-ink display, the S supports a stylus and the SW gives you that and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G.

The prices go up significantly from model to model; to the point where you are paying $900 for the SW, which is ridiculous when you note how many cheaper, though not as functional models are out there on the market. Is it too much to ask to see Wi-Fi on the base model at that price? Is there really any need for Bluetooth in an eReader? They do look pretty good, but the price is wrong.

Prices: iRex 1000 - $649; iRex 1000S - $749; iRex 1000SW - $900 [Gadgetizer, Pocket Lint]

Brando’s Mother of All Hubs Has Sixteen Ports of Uselessness

I own a USB hub, it has four ports and it is plugged in at the back of my computer to act as a bridge between my Razer headphones and the mobo USB port that puts out too much noise. The fact is, in the WiFi age, the humble USB port is becoming decreasingly useful, or put differently, increasingly useless. Brando, it seems, would disagree with me and have released a sixteen hub USB port to prove all of us sensible naysayers wrong.

Price of this travesty after the jump. (more…)

Quick Draw Clip System: At Last a Pocket Protector for the Modern Age

Quick Draw Clip System
These days, geeks don’t carry around a whole lot of extra junk in their shirt pockets. They don’t need scientific calculators, pens or pencils as computers and gadgets pretty much take care of everything. What they do carry around is gadgets, some of which need to be gotten to in a hurry and nobody puts stuff in their pockets anymore. Fortunately, there is a solution that is every bit as functional and socially impeding as the pocket protector: the Quick Draw Clip System.

The Quick Draw Clip system allows you place a small button on your gadget, which easily attaches to a clip that you wear on your belt, allowing you to keep that gadget, be it a cellphone, camera or whatever close at hand, where everyone can see it. The clips come in a range of colors and materials, there is even an 18K gold loop for your belt.

You might think that my tone is a tad mocking and perhaps you are right, but these things are surprisingly popular; most likely with snap happy digital camera nerds and the like. They were initially made for cameras and in fairness, if I were a serious photographer I would probably want one or two, but I am not and I don’t.

Prices range from $2.00 to $20.00 for the clips, with buttons costing a mere $1.95. [Clip Systems via Gizmag]
