Bugeye Race Car Simulator, an Immersive Driving Experience

Bugeye
The Bugeye Race Car Simulator is a different take on conventional racing car simulators. Rather than create the immersion experience with multiple panels, there is a single screen that creates a virtual 3-D display in front of the “driver”.

The manufacturer’s explanation paints a clearer picture:

The Bugeye display utilizes a patented display technology creating a virtual image, focused at infinity, providing a perceived 3D field of view without the use of goggles. Bugeye achieves this by using commercially available off the shelf lenses and LCD panels. The Bugeye display creates an immersive surround view some 20 feet in front of the viewer’s eye. It is similar to looking out of a window.

UberSaturday: The Coolest Simulators Money Can Buy

Uberreview Coolest Simulators

Simulator fans are a strange lot. They don’t usually take to the simple joys of regular digital entertainment. Many of them like a level of realism that most normal folks find tedious, but they are out there and they are just as tech-obsessed as the rest of us, if not more. Today, we are going to take a look at eight of the coolest simulators on the planet. Life Would be Great if you Could Afford the VRX Mach 4 Driving Simulator

VRX Mach 4

Some gaming systems are just so nuts that they do not deserve to be owned by anyone but the ubergeeks that can respect them for the awesomeness that they embody.  The  driving simulator is one of few such objects of desire.  There is a lot going on under the hood of this badboy, there are four displays, three are 37″ Sharp LCD monitors and the third is a 7″ “rearview mirror.”  Two power this there are four X-360s, each with its very own copy of Forza Motorsport 2.  A “virtual wind system” will blow air in your face while you tear up the track.

There is of course, no word on price, if you have to ask then you probably cannot afford it.   I do not think that an overblown system like this would be too hard to put together for a well tooled geek.  Sure it might not look as awesome, but given a budget that would cover the equipment, it would still be pretty cool.  I am pretty sure that VRX would be charging for more than just parts, so the price is going to be up there.  Full stats after the jump, throw an estimate this way if you think you know what it will cost.

The Greatest Homebrew Flight Simulator Ever

747 Simulator Pic 1 (Screen Shot)

There are flight simulators and then there is the 747 Simulator that John Davis built. This story has been doing the rounds recently but the reviews of the 747 flight simulator really did not do it justice. John is a 47-year-old Englishman that seems to have quite an eye for detail. He has recreated a 747 cockpit in the second room of his two-bedroom terrace house in Coventry. His attention to detail is mind-blowing and perhaps a little bit frightening, but we certainly won’t hold that against him.

His $30,000 simulator looks to be a perfect recreation of a 747 cockpit. The detail goes down to every last switch and monitor. There are 90 switches and 9 different monitors to keep you busy when you are flying. If you get a chance to thunder your way down a runway at John’s house just remember the 747 simulator is a culmination of thousands of hours of work. It took eight years to put together and it shows.
