Bed Rifle Rack: Convienent Shotgun Access For The Modern Hick

the_back_up

The “Back Up” is a simple gun rack that fits under your bed mattress, so there really isn’t much to it–it just makes me laugh. The idea is that you have easy access to your shotgun at night in the event you are attacked by thieves or a sweet deer that would look good over your mantle. The fact that it even exists is hilarious, and so is the commercial available in the product link above.

Price: $39.95

Star Trek Enterprise M.A.C.O. Phaser Rifle Under the Hammer

MACO Phaser Rifle

A little over twenty-four hours remain on the auction for one of the hottest pieces of geek memorabilia that has been seen for a long while.  The phaser rifle featured in a number of episodes and was handled by at least two actors.  That makes it a veteran prop in my book.  Enough of the details, onto the weapon; it is designed to look used and the paint job does a good job of that, but there appears to be a little extra wear and tear.  The seller also makes the disclaimer that time and use have left it slightly tacky to the touch.

A little tackiness, that”s okay, it is made out of resin and it is from Star Trek.  The phaser rifle is painted and anyone skilled with a brush should be able to work a little magic on it, if they want it looking prime for their collection.  This is an awesome prop and deserves to be owned by a real Star Trek fan, not someone who is just planning to resell it.

A Battle of the Bank Books for a One of a Kind Master Chief Suit

Halo Suit Helmet

Pre-approved buyers at an eBay auction are settling the biggest fanboy argument as they bid for a Master Chief suit. The suit is constructed from urethane and features numerous parts. The lucky buyer will get a helmet, chest/back piece, shoulder pads, forearm pads, hand plates, belt / codpiece and two pouches, thigh guards, shin guards, ankle guards, toe plates, boots and an assault rifle. Initially the assault rifle was to be a half finished piece, but is going to be upgraded to a full unit.

It looks spectacular, Halo fans will most certainly approve. The very same suit has been featured on Spike TV, G4 TV and in a Dell commercial. The price, at this point is $5,300, but with 22 bids already and the best part of five days to go, you can bet it is going to go up. One lucky Halo fan is going to have a big smile to go with that suit and their empty bank account by the end of next week.

More pictures and price updates after the jump. (more…)

Hot Summer Shooters: Enemy Territory – Quake Wars

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Image Source: Monsters and Critics)

October is not exactly summer, in fact it is fall, but who could ignore a release from id Software? They did, after all, practically invent the genre with Wolfenstein 3D. Let us take a look at how it stacks up against the other major titles that have been announced.

In many ways, first person shooters have not changed a great deal over the years. A game will still live or die based on speed and graphics. They are some of the most demanding games on your system. It is refreshing, therefore, to see games that do not suck up too much graphics juice. For a PC shooter to really make a splash it has to accomplish the impossible; it has to look better than much of its competition and it has to use less RAM and require a smaller video card to do it. Games that push the hardware boundaries too much tend to open to a lukewarm reception and take a while to get going. People do not want to reach into their pockets for new video cards too often. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is rumored to be quite reasonable in the system requirements department. That is good news for everyone involved. (more…)

This Summer’s Hottest Shooters: Halo 3

Halo 3 Title

If the summer movie list leaves you unexcited, the summer gaming line up will not.  There are an unprecedented number of hot first person shooter titles coming out over the summer. Whether you have a PC, a 360 or a PS3 there is sure to be a title to catch your interest.  Rather than jam all of this into one article, it is going to be a three part series.  We are going to avoid the niceties and focus on what really counts, the things that go bang.  We have gone out of our way to source as many images of the weapons as possible.  There is a high likelihood, however, that we missed some out.  If you believe that one was missed, make a comment and include a link to an image and we will work on getting it up.   The first part of our series is Halo 3.  Please put your fanboyism on hold and appreciate some of the fine games that are available for the different consoles.

Bungie’s Halo 3 is perhaps the most anticipated game for Xbox 360 gamers.  It is not going to hit any other platform initially, though it may go to PC later.  Microsoft is going for broke marketing the game.  “Halo 2″ had the most impressive first day sales of any game ever released.  $125 million on its first day alone, there are only movies that have ever beaten “Halo 2″ in the box office, “Spiderman 3″ and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” This could be just the game to dig Microsoft out of its Xbox 360, considering the amount of faulty consoles that they sold.
