Go Easy Old Boy, British NASA Hacker to Face Justice, American Style

Some might argue that the U.S. doesn’t really have a great track record in respecting the human rights of foreign nationals, at least that is what was argued by the lawyers of Gary McKinnon, the Briton who found himself busted for hacking into the Pentagon, the U.S. Army, Navy and NASA in what has been described as “the biggest military hack of all time.” (more…)

Lego Johnny Five a Work of Art

While Johnny Five from Short Circuit has been constructed from Lego before, this is probably the coolest original effort I have seen. User rack911 from The Brothers Brick put it together and might we say he did an incredible job. You can see a ton of really enormous pictures of the project at the Brickshelf Gallery if you are interested in more details. [The Brothers Brick]

Bugeye Race Car Simulator, an Immersive Driving Experience

Bugeye
The Bugeye Race Car Simulator is a different take on conventional racing car simulators. Rather than create the immersion experience with multiple panels, there is a single screen that creates a virtual 3-D display in front of the “driver”.

The manufacturer’s explanation paints a clearer picture:

The Bugeye display utilizes a patented display technology creating a virtual image, focused at infinity, providing a perceived 3D field of view without the use of goggles. Bugeye achieves this by using commercially available off the shelf lenses and LCD panels. The Bugeye display creates an immersive surround view some 20 feet in front of the viewer’s eye. It is similar to looking out of a window.

WTF: XPS 730 H2C, a $6K+ Gaming Machine From Dell

XPS
Dell has just the solution for the economic woes of the United States, it comes in the form of a hardcore gaming PC with a price tag that amounts to a few months of mortgage payments. The XPS 730 HTC is big, powerful and very, very expensive.

Dell has not skimped when it comes to the hardware. The XPS 730 HTC has a lot of shiny bells and whistles including: dual ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 graphics cards, 4GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 Corsair Dominator memory, an Intel QX9770 overclocked to 3.8 GHz, a 1TB storage drive and a Creative X-Fi sound card. Dardenbahst, Steampunk Lego Goodness

Dardenbahst
Dardenbahst is a steampunk inspired Lego sculpture of a mechanized walker. It is a clever Lego sculpture which makes use of contrasting colors and hand painting to give the appearance of a blend of wood, steel and brass components. It looks terrific and we are hoping that we will see more of Morgan19’s work in the not too distant future.

The best part, there are schematics, so you can build your own should the mood strike you. You can find a ton of great pictures over at BrickShelf.
