Three Toys for a 24 Karat Douche Bag

24 Karat Douche Bag pic 1

Stupid jewelers that like to put precious stones into gadgets really rub me the wrong way. Not only is it stupid and frivolous, it is wasteful. Here are three of the dumbest blinged out devices I have seen over the past week. I would be hesitant to call this a top three, as there are plenty of equally stupid devices out there.

The title shot is the incredibly inane gold universal remote in 24K yellow gold. This will set you back about $30,000, money that could be better spent elsewhere or put to use for good. No one needs a gold remote control, how about donating it to a worthy cause instead.

A Rocking Gaming Desktop from Saitek

Saitek Cyborg Keyboard

Saitek has released two new products that ought to give any first person shooter freak something to smile about. The Cyborg line which was previously limited to a gamepad and a keypad has now been expanded to included a very slick looking keyboard and gaming mouse.

Starting with the Cyborg Keyboard, it features multi-color back lighting that allows you to set your own backlighting colors and adjust brightness. This is not essential, but makes life easier if you enjoy playing in a darkened room. You can also light commonly used gaming keys separately. There are twelve macro keys which should be enough for most gamers. Commonly used gaming keys are reinforced with metal plated key caps. USB, audio and microphone sockets are included in the keyboard and the wrist rest and rake angle are adjustable at both front a back. The thing that Saitek has done which I greatly approve of is boosting up the specs of the gaming areas of the keyboard, but leaving the rest of the keyboard rather standard. The multiple key press enhancements are only in the gaming parts of the board, you don’t need them anywhere else, anything to keep the cost down is a good thing. Price-wise it is not as cheap as we would like and that would make choosing it over similar keyboards from Logitech and Razer a rather difficult proposition. (more…)

The Trooper, Wolf King’s Affordable Gaming Mouse

The Wolfking Trooper

The Wolf King Trooper is a late gaming mouse offering from a company that has brought out a few noteworthy gaming accessories. It borrows a lot from high-end gaming mice but according to Extreme Tech fails when it comes to the highest 2200 dpi performance setting. They have done great reviews in the past and are usually right on the money, so without a hands-on we are going to take them at their word. They have laid out their theories as to why the Wolf King was so bad at the 2200 dpi setting, if you want to read it, check out the link at the bottom of the page. Before we look at where it went wrong, however, let’s take a look at where it went right, it really hit the nail on the head for most people’s gaming needs.

First of all, there is the price (which we will show you at the end). It is retails for about half the price of a Logitech G5 and a third of the price of a G9 or MS Sidewinder. It is cheap, not much more in fact, than many non-gaming mice. It has a range of DPI settings that you can switch on the fly. At the press of a dedicated button you can switch between 800, 1600 and the problematic 2200 dpi. That is nice, because you don’t always want lightning speed with your mouse movements. It looks pretty good for a cheap mouse and has a comfortable looking shape. Let me tell you guys, I have some small hands but I like a large mouse; better ergonomics.

Microsoft Sidewinder Gaming Mouse is Fragtastic

Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse

Who is not a sucker for a good gaming mouse? The Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse screams quality and offers some subtle innovations. While some aspects of the mouse are very similar to the Logitech G5, Microsoft has taken the gaming mouse to an entirely new place. What is more, the color scheme of the Sidewinder looks terrific. There are some nice looking mice on the market, but this is up there with the best of them. The LCD screen on the left hand side is a nice finishing touch; it is used to display DPI settings and macro information.

Being a gaming mouse, it is of course wired, but it comes with a cable anchor to keep you from getting tangled up in your own cords. Five programmable macro buttons will allow you to program in commands that you frequently use. The side buttons are aligned vertically and constructed from metal. Metal is also used for the scroll wheel. A quick launch button for Vista games explorer is icing on the cake. Adjustable weighting systems have been seen before, but are always a nice touch. There are quite a few gamers who prefer the reassuring weight of a heavier mouse. Weight is adjustable from 5gm - 30gm. Replaceable feet will have you gliding the way that you want to glide; there are three types to choose from. Perhaps the coolest feature is the software that comes with it. You will be able to adjust DPI settings and macros on the fly.

This is easily the best looking gaming mouse I have ever seen. I cannot wait to get my hands on one.
