Vista Clean Boot in 4-Seconds - If you Have an ASRock Mobo

ASRock has figured out a way to get a clean boot of Vista running in a mere three to four seconds. As long as you have an ASRock motherboard with AMD’s 780G or 790GX chipsets, or Intel’s P45 or P43 chipsets, a bios update can see you getting the same performance.

According to Custom PC UK:

The idea behind Instant Boot is that it takes advantage of the S3 and S4 features of ACPI (advanced configuration and power interface), which normally enable the Sleep/Standby and Hibernation modes in Windows respectively. However, by calling them at different times in the boot-up and shutdown process, Instant Boot enables you to boot up to your Windows desktop in three to four seconds, even after a proper Shut Down.

Booting in four seconds would certainly motivate me to get back on my desktop and actually turn it off once in a while, unfortunately I don’t have an ASRock board, but considering that ASRock is the budget wing of Asus, there is hope yet. This is a whole lot better than Splashtop. [Custom PC UK via Slashdot]

The Safe Bedside Table Helps You Get Medieval On Intruders

If you live in fear of people breaking and entering your home and you are made of sterner stuff than the guy who needs to sleep with a shotgun under the bed, then this is definitely for you. The safe bedside table breaks into a club and a shield - ready for you to put some serious hurt on whoever is invading your home.

Just hope that the said intruder does not have a gun, because I am not sure that the puny little wooden shield will stand up to bullets. [Bauldoff via Slippery Brick, Gear Fuse and Boing Boing Gadgets]

9-foot Tall T-Rex Statue Ensures That Your Kids Will NEVER Sleep Again

The Brachiosaurus statue here is not going to be for everyone, most people will find it too expensive and even those that can afford one of these would probably find the purchase hard to justify unless they really loved Jurassic Park. The statue moves and has a blood curdling roar that you can hear if you play the video after the jump. (more…)
