Why aren’t air conditioners solar powered? The power requirements of air conditioners are astronomical so a single air conditioner would require a large surface area of panels to supply its power needs. The GreenCore 10200 gets around that by using a battery pack which is recharged throughout the day.
While the configuration that the GreenCore comes with will not provide enough power to completely run the air conditioner, it will put a dent in the power bill and it can be joined to other solar panels to supply its complete power needs. [Green Core Air via Treehugger, DVICE]

When you really think about it, MP4 players are just begging to be solar powered. They don’t use a whole lot of power, so you can get away with a reasonably small solar panel. The PowerPlus Toucan is a pretty good idea, if you are the sort of person that spends extended periods of time in the outdoors, watching movies on a 2-inch screen. (more…)

If you want to light your patio at night and you want to do so in a green way, then you might consider the Solar Umbrella Globe Lights. As the name implies, there are solar panels in the top of an umbrella that will soak up enough juice during the day to keep your lights going for up to six hours. That is pretty good.
The drawback is of course that this thing is bound to bring bugs. I figure that it is a given that lights outside attract all kinds of flying insects, so you might want to see if you can purchase a solar-powered bug zapper to go along with it.

It is not too often that we associate
solar powered with anything fast and or furious, but perhaps it is time that we start. The Czeers MK1 is a 10-meter vessel covered in photovoltaic cells that is capable of hitting speeds of up to 30 knots (55.5 km/ph to you non-nautical folks out there). While there are certainly faster boats on the water, those tend to use obscene amounts of fuel.
