Star Trek Shuttle Simulator On The Block

500x_DSCF0003
This USS Galileo simulator would make a most excellent fortress of nerditude.

According to the seller:

Remember those days, as a child, when you pretended to be a daring captain of a starship? Or when you pretended to be the brave crew? Why pretend? The USS Galileo, from Alpine School District’s Christa McAuliffe Space Education Center in Pleasant Grove, is now up for sale. Those days of pretend are over, a real starship for the taking. The USS Galileo is a space ship simulator, complete with stations, networking, speakers, a main viewscreen, and anything a futuristic starship should have. The Space Education Center built a new Galileo so we must sadly sell our old Galileo.

The reserve price has not yet been stated, but given that the current bid is $1000, there is a good chance that it is set fairly high. If you do want to take this thing home, you will have to get yourself to Utah and bring enough muscle to load it onto your own truck.

Twelve Acceptable Father’s Day Gifts For Geek Dads

fathers
It’s Father’s Day again and you are here because you have no idea what to get your old man (or the father of your children) for this special day that comes only once a year. The problem is further compounded if your old man happens to be a geek and who as a result probably does not care for sports memorabilia of any description.

You have been debating getting him yet another tie, but you suspect that he just won’t like it. Your suspicions are correct, he will hate it because most ties suck and will just remind him of the corporate grind that he is forced to suffer through five days a week or more.

Fortunately, your quest for a better Father’s Day gift has led you here. Our list of acceptable gifts has been compiled by two fathers, both of whom concur that any item on the list would make either of their days.

Star Trek Tricorder a Throwback to The Golden Age of NCC-1701

tricorder
If you like Star Trek and the JJ Abrams take on the franchise didn’t speak to you then chances are you are the sort of guy or girl that would have more than a healthy interest in original-series memorabilia, like this Tricorder.

The tricorder is a life-size recreation (8” x 4” x 2”) that runs on four AA batteries and has sound effects from the original series. Couple that with some flashing lights and a removable scanner and you are going to be in nerd heaven.

Price: $49.99 [Retro Thing via Coolest Gadgets]

Star Trek Scene It Board game For Non-video Gaming Star Trek Fiends

startreksceneit-sbThere is something about the interactivity of boardgames that makes them special. They lack the total immersion of most modern video games so you can still carry on a conversation while you are playing; though the game often dictates the conversation. In this case, it will probably monopolize the conversation; as Star Trek Scene It is a quiz game about, you guessed it, Star Trek. It comes with a DVD for cut scenes and will test your knowledge of useless trivia that you probably shouldn’t admit to knowing. [Screenlife Games via Oh Gizmo]

Star Trek Urns and Caskets For Trekkies To Explore the Next Dimension

trekdeath
Star Trek urns and caskets allow departed Trekkies that did not live long or prosper enough to have their remains sent to outer space to enjoy their ultra-geeky obsession in death just as they did in life. The Star Trek urn is a tasteful and appropriate receptacle for cremated remains; or for those that prefer the old dirt nap, there is a photon torpedo shaped casket as well. No word on pricing.
